1). Do I suffer from the Idea of Globologna? (Why or Why Not) Before watching the TED talk video by Mr. Ghemawat, I do suffer a little from Globologna. In my life, I have been able to travel within and outside of North America with no problems, so in my eyes, it seemed very simple to travel as I pleased. After watching the video it made me realize that I don’t know what’s going on in a day to day life in other countries. They have different rules and laws emphasizing that our and other countries' boundaries are enforced firmly. Living in America has many privileges compared to other countries in the world I did not realize until now. 2). Do you think that America is experiencing its own surge of Nationalism? Why or why not? Yes, I do think that America is experiencing its own surge of Nationalism. As seen by several sociopolitical phenomena, nationalism is on the rise in America. Feelings of pride in the country have grown stronger due to factors including political conflict, cultural changes, and economic uncertainties. Nationalist speech has become more strident as a result of events like the 2016 presidential election and the political developments that followed. A growing nationalist mentality is seen in the growth of popular movements. All things considered, nationalism in America is present and has an impact on the national conversation, even though it may not be consistent or undisputed. 3). How does state-run media give a government more power than a free public media system? By giving official narratives a voice and swaying public opinion in favor of government agendas, state-run media empowers the government. State-run media frequently acts as a weapon for propaganda, limiting criticism and regulating the flow of information, in contrast to a free public media system that encourages the expression of different opinions and holds authorities responsible. Governments can sustain control over the populous, consolidate power, and manipulate public opinion by selectively delivering facts and managing the narrative. A free public media system, on the other hand, facilitates openness, critical thinking, and the free flow of ideas that are necessary for a democracy to flourish. 4). What if the United States adopted the same regulations that Alabama did in the video? What do you think would be the result? Where would the immigrant population go? Would it have a negative or positive impact on the nation? The number of immigrants could be significantly impacted if the United States implemented laws akin to Alabama's most restrictive anti-immigration statute from 2011. A large number of immigrants may decide to leave Alabama and move to states with more lenient immigration laws or less stringent enforcement. Stricter restrictions have the potential to have a detrimental overall effect on the country by creating social tensions within impacted neighborhoods, workforce shortages, and economic disruptions. There might also be legal difficulties and diplomatic fallout, which would harm the nation's standing and ties with other countries. In general, it's more likely to make immigration-related problems worse than to make them better. 10). Do you think the ideas of Jihad taught in Wahhabism education leads to violence? Yes, I think that Jihadist teachings in Wahhabism education can lead to violence. Wahhabism advocates a strict interpretation of Islam, including Jihad, or holy war, against perceived enemies. This ideology can persuade people to join extremist groups and commit violent acts. Wahhabism's black-and-white worldview might lead followers to justify violence in defense of their beliefs. As a result, some people who are exposed to Wahhabi teachings may become radicalized and commit violent acts, including
against their own country. Therefore, there is a link between the principles of Jihad taught in Wahhabism and the possibility of violence. 11). What would be a negative impact on the Social Security of a State due to an inverse population pyramid? An inverse population pyramid results in more old people receiving social security benefits and fewer younger people paying taxes to sustain these benefits. This can provide financial problems to a state's social security system. With a reduced working-age population, payroll taxes produce less revenue, making it difficult to fund the Social Security program. As a result, there may be pressure to cut benefits or raise taxes on a smaller group of workers. This imbalance burdens social security's financial stability, which could threaten the retirement security of older residents and the state's overall economic health. The demand for social security can worsen financial limitations, reducing funding available for other critical services such as healthcare and education. 12). What was the “That is Crazy” moment for you as you watch the video?
