Sensation and Perception Sensation Detection of physical energy by sense organs. All of our senses rely on a handful of principles Sensory receptors: Sensory nerve that respond to stimuli ● External stimulus is converted by the sense receptor into neural activity through tranduction ● When we first sense something, it is at its highest because sensory adaption is trying to work Steps in Sensation Perception The brain’s interpretation of raw sensory data Subliminal Perception Perception of stimuli that re presented at below threshold levels (E.g. too fast to recogize) ● Subliminal effects: can be found under carefully controlled conditions but they have no practical application ● Subliminal self-help tapes effects are found to he ineffective because it is a placebo effect
