Hello Dr. Schmitz & Class,
In my opinion, leadership development programs approach is one of the most effective ways to develop future leaders. Leadership programs are designed to train individuals within an organization to take ownership of their jobs and the tasks required of them (McCauley et al., 2021). Not only does LDP’s train people to be greater employees, but greater leaders as well. The
role as a leader may be well-defined and include leadership authority and power, such as a manager or executive officer, or may be loosely defined, such as a team leader who has less authority but is still responsible for daily tasks. Leaders should want the people who were carefully selected and recruited to grow in their careers and progress through their organization. Effective leadership development programs (LDPs) provide the opportunity and guidance so employees, who are in leadership positions can develop the skills necessary to further their careers, lead others to success, and contribute exceptional work to the organization (McCauley, 2021). In my experience leadership development programs can assist people build skills like communication, decision-making, and conflict management. These initiatives are most effective when the focus is on performance outcomes that support a key business priority, like revenue increase.

the critical role of leadership is emphasized during times of change. Yet, a universal definition of leadership is non-existent because it is defined by our personal experience. Similarly, describing the difference between leadership and management, both necessary for organizational change, has been described from multiple perspectives. The terminology most used to describe the actions of a leader and the actions of a manager are transformational and transactional. However, in the video, "Leadership vs. Management", Godin (2018) takes a slightly different approach to determine what sets leaders apart from managers by focusing on courage to take responsibility even when risks are high, failure is eminent, and possibilities are only a vision. Considering organizational change, the readings, and video, respond to the following questions:

How important are excellent leaders to organizations? If you were to ask the recently-retired 3M CEO George Buckley, he’d say extremely important. But he’d also say that excellent leaders don’t just pop up out of nowhere. A company has to cultivate leaders who have the skills and abilities to help it survive and thrive. And like a successful baseball team with strong performance statistics that has a player development plan in place, 3M has its own farm system. Except its farm system is designed to develop company leaders. 3M’s leadership development program is so effective that it has been one of the “Top 20 Companies for Leadership” in three of the last four years and ranks as one of the top 25 companies for grooming leadership talent according to Hay Consulting Group and Fortune magazine. What is 3M’s leadership program all about? About 10 years ago, the company’s former CEO (Jim McNerney, who is now Boeing’s CEO) and his top team spent 18 months developing a new leadership model…

Most people have a blend of leadership styles that they use. Some leaders are more flexible in applying a wide range of leadership styles, whereas others are more consistent and generally use just one or two preferred behaviors. Effective leadership is essential for driving organizational success, inspiring teams, and fostering a culture of growth and innovation. Leadership development initiatives aim to cultivate the skills, competencies, and behaviors necessary for individuals to excel in leadership roles. These initiatives may include formal training programs, mentorship opportunities, coaching, and feedback mechanisms. Leadership development focuses not only on traditional leadership skills such as decision-making, communication, and strategic thinking but also on emotional intelligence, adaptability, and resilience. Organizations that prioritize leadership development invest in their future by identifying and nurturing emerging leaders, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and expand their leadership capabilities. Additionally, leadership development efforts should be aligned with the organization's goals and values, ensuring that leaders at all levels embody and promote…
