8.13 Motel Story A. Transitions: Where did you note transitions in this story? Identify 3 (1 pts) 1. When the husband and wife decided to go different ways, one to get drinks and the other to go to the motel room. 2. When the husband and wife have to find a motel room to stay for the night so that they can sleep. So they had to communicate to the co-worker to see if they could find a room. 3. Lastly, when the husband had to honk the horn in order for the other people in the motel to turn on their lights but since she is deaf she did not hear the honk. B. Role-Shifting: Describe a part of the story where you noticed role-shifting (1 pt) - Some role - shifts that I saw in this story would be when they were talking to the worker at the motel room as they all were talking about how they could get a room when a role shift was introduced. Another time that I noticed that there was a role shift is when the husband was in the car after finding them drinks, there was a role shift as he was looking to find his wife in one of the rooms. C. Spatial Agreement: Describe a part of the story where you identified spatial agreement (1 pt.) - The agreement of this story has two parts. It has one to do with when they decided to stop driving as they both had to make a decision whether or not they wanted to keep driving or not. Another agreement that they made was reserving the room for the night so they can sleep. These were the two spatial agreements from this story. D. NMS: List any Non-Manual Signals and what concepts/signs/words they relate to: (3 pts) 1. When the husband had to honk the horn so that the wife would not turn on the light since she is deaf he was able to tell what room she was in. 2. Windows or doors 3. When they are communicating to the coworkers to see if they can find room. E. Conjunctions: What conjunction did you identify? Related to what concept? (1 pt) - One conjunction that I was able to identify while reading would be the usage of the word finish, but that was used in the video to show that they were finished with that topic or sentence. F. Temporal Aspect: What Temporal Aspect is used in this story (1 pt.) - One temporal aspect that is used in this story would be the duration of time showing different time stamps and how they can be correlated to this story. Since both the husband and wife were not together at the end of this story they showed that duration of time was the most repetitive.
G. Type the story in English below: (6 pts) A husband and wife who are both deaf, decided to go on a vacation. They were driving around all day and all night. And then it started to get dark outside and both of them became tired so they both decided to stop at a motel for the night. The manager at the motel tells them that there is only one room left available for the night and that they should reserve it now if they need a place to stay. So they reserved the room. The husband tells the wife that he is going to get drinks for them both, so the wife goes up to the room while she waits. As the husband is driving back to go to the motel room he realizes that he forgot what room number he had. All of the windows and doors are shut and the lights are off. So he decides to honk the car horn to try to see if someone will see. He sees all of the lights go one but one, then he knows that's what room his wife is in since she cannot hear the car horn like everyone else can.
