Video Observation 1
A.
Identify the first video and observe the teacher integrating technology in the classroom to facilitate teaching and learning, and discuss your observation by doing the following:
Answering Questions Using Communication Devices https://lrps.wgu.edu/provision/195156039
1.
Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process.
The technology used is a tablet that is connected to a projector. There is also an ipad with voice output that one student uses to help her communicate. The tablet is used as a replacement for hard copies of a poem that the teacher is reading to the students
a. Identify the level of technology integration according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection.
2. Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process.
The technology affected the teaching by replacing a hard copy with a picture on the projector. This is an improvement from a hard copy because the whole class is on the same page and it is simplified so that the students can understand it better.
3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning.
The level that technology is used in the lesson according to the SAMR model is substitution. This means that the teacher just substituted something that was already there with technology. If the teacher instead showed the poem in an animated form with moving pictures to go with the words she’s saying, the students may be able to understand the story better because they can see what’s happening as the teacher reads it. This would be at the Redefinition level.
Video Observation 2
B.
Identify the second video and observe the teacher integrating technology in the classroom to facilitate teaching and learning, and discuss your observation by doing the following:
Applying Listening and Speaking Skills while Presenting a Digital Scrapbook about the Early Settlers https://lrps.wgu.edu/provision/195154592
1.
Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process.
The technology used is a projector with which the teacher shows the class a student presentation. a. Identify the level of technology according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection.
2. Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process.
The technology affected the teaching and learning process by replacing the students coming to the front of the class and giving the presentation themselves.
3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning.
The level that technology is used in this video is the modification level because it is improving on what was already possible and adding something that requires technology like video editing. If the teacher had the students instead make a video using animations or acting, then the students can experience the subject more fully because they can visualize it. This would be the redefinition level.
Video Observation 3
C.
Identify the third video and observe the teacher integrating technology in the classroom to facilitate teaching and learning, and discuss your observation by doing the following:
Using Technology in Creative Writing https://lrps.wgu.edu/provision/195155701
1.
Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process.
The technology used in this video is an overhead projector. The teacher uses it to show what is on the paper she is holding.
a. Identify the level of technology according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection.
2. Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process.
The technology affected the learning process by replacing a whiteboard with a projector. The teacher can show what they did yesterday with a paper that was already filled out instead of rewriting everything on the board.
3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning.
The level that technology is used in this lesson is substitution because the teacher is replacing what she can write on the board with a paper that is already written. If the teacher created slides with links to other slides, the lesson can be taught much more smoothly and they can change what is on the slides much easier. This would be the modification level.
