Name Natalia Wolak Date 12/11/2023 EDU 363 Literacy Profile Study Samuel is a sixth-grade student that struggles with various areas of literacy. He scored below grade level on most of the assessments he was given. Although he struggles to read and comprehend on his expected level, Samuel’s strength lies in oral comprehension. The interventions below outline ways to best help Samuel improve his literacy skills without singling him out from his classmates. Samuel will benefit greatly from interventions that are specific to his areas of weakness. There are a variety of interventions that can be used, and even modified, to best fit Samuel’s needs and interests. Each section contains a technology tool that will keep Samuel engaged but will also promote valuable learning.

Promote the use of Grammarly for Samuel to utilize during writing time to explicitly show conventional errors. Five overall recommendations for Samuel’s education
in content subject areas
:
1.
In Social Studies, Samuel should be allowed to use notes provided by the teacher so that he can concentrate on what is being said and not trying to listen and copy notes at the same time.
You can use this example. 2.
In science, Samuel should be provided with vocabulary words before the topic is introduced while also being able to refer back to it during instruction and independent work. 3.
In reading, Samuel will be provided with an audio version of a book he is reading. He excels with oral comprehension- listening to the book will help connect visual and auditory comprehension. 4.
In writing, Samuel will be provided with a graphic organizer to organize his thoughts before crafting his writing assignment. 5.
In math, Samuel will be provided with a list of vocabulary words related to the math content presented in each lesson. It will also be helpful to include common equations he uses daily in math.

Conclusion: The interventions created in this literacy chart will be helpful for my future career in education. In education today, most students are performing significantly below grade level in every aspect of their academics. Sixth grade students are still reading at a third-grade level. Although the intervention plan is catered specifically towards one student, the same ideas and activities can be applied to other students. This literacy plan also taught me that although students may struggle in most areas, they still have areas of strengths that can be focused on. Samuel struggles with most aspects of literacy but did well with oral comprehension. Using this strength helped me to craft interventions for other categories to better help Samuel reach his goals.
