Why do you suppose collaboration is so highly encouraged in education? Do you have any reservations in sharing responsibility with others? In your role as a future school leader, how would you build a culture of communication on your campus? I do believe that collaboration is considered an essential component of the educational experience. One of the reasons that I believe it's highly encouraged in education is the diversity of perspectives and ideas that can be helpful for problem solving. Collaboration requires effective communication and having effective communication helps school leaders to effectively lead their school environment. As leaders we can be often faced with making complex decisions that impact various entities in the school. Collaboration builds a sense of collective ownership of the school environment. I believe that it makes everyone take responsibility to make sure that the school environment functions the best that it can. I do not have reservations in sharing responsibility with others. However, I can see why someone could have reservations. If you are collectively working on an initiative or an issue within the school and the solution that you collaborated on either failed or did not do well you will share blame in that failure. This could deter some people from working together. However this would not deter me, I want to promote a collaborative community with in my campus. Again, we are making decisions that will effect anyone that is associated with our campus and school environment. The responsibility to make decisions should not fall in the lap of just one a few persons but it should be a collective effort on everyone's part. Resources Nedelcu, A., PhD. (2013).
