Running head: Education and social media Education and social media inside higher learning Beverly B. Baxter American Military University/American Public University COMM211 Social Media and Society Professor Justin Edgren October 22, 2023
Education and social media Abstract Social media will continue to impact our societies and communities for years. Furthermore, with prior and recent research, it is becoming more evident to some students and faculty to utilize social media sites in a classroom setting and allow more interaction and participation from students who utilize and are more active on social media than school emails or websites. It can enhance a learning curve and increase students' academic progress. Also, it aids students in learning, collaboration, and communication. However, some elementary and high schools and universities have transitioned some learning with social media use, helping students understand concepts and increasing some student's educational experiences. Many schools and universities are against it, and others are still trying to understand if its use has significant benefits. This paper will examine social media's role in higher education with input from researchers and university students on using social media in a classroom setting.
Education and social media Education and social media inside higher learning Social media has become a helpful technology source in higher education's personal, interpersonal, and collaborative communication. In return, it is helping to strengthen staff and student networks and relationships, increasing student engagement, professional development, resource sharing, social learning, peer-to-peer connection, and project management. There has been discussion on how social media affects student's academic performance with benefits and drawbacks. All social media sites are not valuable use in higher education. However, sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram have become helpful in higher education. The use of social media in daily life has made it much easier and faster for teachers and students to interact regarding studies. We live in a world where online interactions have become essential, and students are already experts at online presence. They are mindful of operating simple and complicated functions on several social media sites. (Williams, 2023) The role of social media in higher education classes (real and virtual) - A literature review by Paul A. Tess goes over how instructors are looking more to social media technology to enhance and liaise their classroom instructions, communications, and student learning. Also, how engaged and active college students utilize social media and the experience students gain inside and outside the classroom. Furthermore, researchers are examining the use of social media's positive effects despite some negative. The overall purpose of this paper was to show the visible use of social media in higher education. It has become integral to communicating student achievements, engagement, and better contingency plans for assignments, information sharing, or events. The conclusions and

Education and social media claims show the research outcome of the most popular social media websites used by college students. Studies showed students' relationships and improvements through social media use, evidence of drawbacks that received biased responses on social media use. The research results show how valuable social media has become in communications, learning, instructions, experience, and networking through technology. Also, how education is emerging by improving interaction and engagement between faculty and students, conducting this research required consistent search through websites such as Web of Science, ERIC, and EBSCOhost. Further, it includes using keywords and phrases related to education and social media. In the end, the support conducted by the author supports their claims. The big picture this research fits into is showing improved academic performances from higher education students, changes in teachers' roles, and their classroom dynamics. Also, due to some students' different learning styles, it is more feasible for some who may have a slower learning curve or are more comfortable communicating online or on social media. However, the three theories on understanding social media's role in education that could have been applied in this research (in my opinion): functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Applying this research to "real life" has been happening for years, and despite some privacy concerns, social media still plays a vital part in higher education learning. Now that I am obtaining my BS, I never knew a Social Media and Society class existed. I am learning more about how much social media is helping me and others in school. Through social media, students find it easy as well as convenient to communicate, access information, and to provide
Education and social media information. Studies have shown that in the recent years academics have been expanding their social media usage to offer after-hours support for students, deliver and host lectures, disseminate information and engage in discussion. (Dr. Chugh) Although most people on social media post about life, inspiration, comedy, beauty, fashion, and more. There is still a considerable side of education that creators and professors (retired or still teaching) are utilizing these sites to help students achieve their academic goals or meet their learning abilities.
