Mod 2: Field Notes Module 2: Field Notes Arizona State University SPE 527: Behavior Analytic Assessments 20 January 2024 Module 2: Field Notes
Mod 2: Field Notes In module 2, the materials discussed were highly focused on assessments that target deficits in social communication and social interaction, as well as, deficits in poorly integrated verbal and nonverbal communication. The first portion of the module that I completed was the Relias Assessment Instruments for ABA Program Building. Throughout this video module, the presenter discussed how to develop treatment plans, more appropriately stated as which approach to take. The Relias module provided questions to ask oneself before interacting with a possible client that help determine a structure and a path to take during an assessment (Davin, 2023). The Relias module broke down the assessment’s instruments and tools along with tips for administering them. The tips for administration reminded me of how collaborate the field of ABA and human services is. I appreciate the collaboration and how the constant communication reinforces us to be accountable, competent and increases our knowledge (Davin, 2023). Following the tips and importance of assessments, the Relias module then discussed different assessments. The assessments that were discussed in the Relias module were further explored within our own research for our first team discussion and to be used for our practice assessment later in Module 4. Throughout the rest of the module, I research the Verbal Behavior Milestones and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). The VB-MAPP assess many of the principles that were developed and dissected in the Verbal Behavior chapter of our readings throughout the week (Davin, 2023). In the Cooper book, vocabulary such a tact, mand, and intraverbals were defined and described with examples to then apply towards assessments and Skinner’s verbal behavior. This portion of the material this week was rather difficult to comprehend, and I required guidance from my supervisor, but I was able to apply the terms I understood to the concepts and get a more definitive grasp on the materials. I appreciated the detail that was provided to us and found
Mod 2: Field Notes that Mayer et al., (2022) was able to bring a new light to the concepts, making them more obtainable for me (Cooper et al., 2022, Mayer et al., 2022). With the cumulative information that we have gathered from the materials regarding assessments and the different parts of verbal behavior, we should be able to feel confident in administering our assessments. Understanding the differences and being able to quickly identify between intraverbals, tacts, and mands along with comprehending the dynamics between the speaker and listener should be great insight into the assessments that we will administer in the future (Cooper et al., 2022). Understanding those concepts will make determining what assessments, interventions, curriculums, and programs will be most significant for the client in front of us, expanding our own respirators, knowledge and increasing the effectiveness of ABA (Mayer et al., 2022). BACB Task List Items (6 th Edition): D.2, D.3, E.3, E.4, F.1, F.2, F.3, F.4, F.6, F.7, & F.8. Ethics Code: 1.01, 1.05, 1.06, 2.01, 2.03, 2.10, 2.11, 2.13, 2.14, 2.15, 2.162.17, & 2.19. References
