Module 2: Comprehension Check
Arizona State University
SPE 527: Behavior Analytic Assessments
18 January 2024
An Overview of Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-
MAPP)
The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) was developed from Skinner’s Verbal Behavior
(1957). It was developed by Dr. Mark Sundberg in 2008 and piloted by several individuals that interacted with those who expressed language deficits. There are 170 milestones within the VB-MAPP that are separated into three modules or
developmental levels ( 0 – 18 months, 18 – 30 months, and 30 -48 months) (Sundberg, 2014).
The VB-MAPP is designed as a curriculum and program-based assessment to identify current skills in learning and language repertoires, determine priority interventions, identify the optimal learning environment and teaching strategies. The domains covered within the VB-
MAPP are as follows: mand, tact, echoic, intraverbal, listener, motor imitation, independent play,
social and social play, visual perceptual and matching-to-sample, linguistic structure, group and classroom skills, and early academics (Sundberg, 2014).
Within the second component of the VB-MAPP, common barriers to learning and language are identified and assessed. These barriers include instructional control, scrolling, defective verbal behaviors, repetitive and restricted behaviors, weak motivators, and poorly integrated verbal and nonverbal communication (Sundberg, 2014).

You work in a research organization that is looking for markers of various diseases that can be used as a diagnostic for the disease. It has been reported in the past that high levels of Cu are found in the sweat of people with cystic fibrosis. One of the research projects is focused on looking for high levels of Cu in samples that can be obtained non-invasively such as saliva, sweat, hair, nails, etc.
The lab will analyze large samples for Cu. What instrument would you recommend purchasing to support this work, Atomic absorption spectrophotometer or an inductively coupled plasma atomic spectrophotometer? Explain the basis for your decision.

3. In patients with early stage lung cancer, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has greatly improved survival in
patients unable to undergo surgery. In tumors 100 Gy 10 BED have demonstrated
significantly improved survival, when compared with doses <100 Gy 10. What is the BED of the following protocol?
Would you suggest increasing the dose, or does it appear adequate, assuming the given information? What would
you expect as the most likely side effect of therapy for this patient?
3 fractions of 15 Gy delivered every other day.

In order to measure riboflavin in a breakfast cereal, a 5.00-gram sample of the cereal was extracted with acetic acid and filtered. The extract was transferred to a 50.0 mL volumetric flask and diluted to the mark. The sample was transferred to a cuvette and the fluorescence was measured. The instrument read 59 units (Fluorescence units –an arbitrary scale). 24.00 mL of the cereal extract was sample was mixed with 1.0 mL of a riboflavin standard that was 0.500 ug/mL. The fluorescence of this mixture was measured and read 94 fluorescence units. Calculate the concentration of riboflavin per gram of cereal (use µg/gram of cereal).

You are trying to come up with a drug to inhibit the activity of an enzyme thought to have a role in liver disease. In the laboratory the enzyme was shown to have a Km of 1.0 x 10-6 M and Vmax of 0.1 micromoles/min.mg measured at room temperature. You developed an uncompetitive inhibitor. In the presence of 5.0 x 10-5 M inhibitor, the apparent Vmax was determined to be 0.02 micromoles/min.mg. What is the Ki of the inhibitor?
