Fraud survey of Asia-Pacific firms. The opinions of employees at Asia-Pacific firms regarding fraud, bribery, and corruption in the workplace were elicited in the 2015 Asia-Pacific (APAC) Fraud Survey. Interviews were conducted with a sample 1,508 employees of large APAC companies. One question concerned whether or not the employee’s company had implemented a “whistle-blower” hotline —that is, a phone number that an employee can call to report fraud or other types of misconduct without fear of retribution. The 2015 survey found that 680 of the 1,508 respondents companies had not implemented a whistle-blower hotline. In comparison, 436 of the 681 respondents in the 2013 survey reported their companies had not implemented a whistle-blower hotline.

- What is meant by the sample space of an experiment?arrow_forwardIn a survey of 782 human resource professionals, each was asked about the importance of the appearance of a job applicant. The survey subjects were randomly selected by Harry Interactive pollsters.arrow_forwardA survey of entrepreneurs focused on their job characteristics, work habits, social activities, leisure time, etc. One question put to each entrepreneur was, "What make of car (U.S., Europe, or Japan) do you drive?" The responses (number in each category) for a sample of 100 entrepreneurs are summarized below. The goal of the analysis is to determine if the proportions of entrepreneurs who drive American, European, and Japanese cars differ. U.S. Europe Japan 40 35 25 In order to determine whether the true proportions in each response category differ, a one-way chi- square analysis should be conducted. Suppose the p-value for the test was calculated to be p = 0.1738. What is the appropriate conclusion to make when testing at a = 0.10? A) There is insufficient evidence to indicate the proportion of entrepreneurs driving the three makes of car differ. B) There is sufficient evidence to indicate the proportion of entrepreneurs driving the three makes of car are equal. C) There is…arrow_forward
- According to a government statistics department, 20.2% of women in a country aged 25 years or older have a Bachelor's Degree; 16.7% of women in the country aged 25 years or older have never married; among women in the country aged 25 years or older who have never married, 22.3% have a Bachelor's Degree; and among women in the country aged 25 years or older who have a Bachelor's Degree, 18.4% have never married. Complete parts (a) and (b) below. (a) Are the events "have a Bachelor's Degree" and "never married" independent? Explain. The probability of the event "have a Bachelor's Degree" is affected by the occurrence of the event "never married", and the probability of the event "never married" is affected by the occurrence of the event "have a Bachelor's Degree", so the events are not independent. (b) Suppose a woman in the country aged 25 years or older is randomly selected. What is the probability she has a Bachelor's Degree and has never married? Interpret this probability. In a 1985 study designed to answer this question, 116 participants filled out questionnaire to determine their personality profiles. Astrologers were then presented with the personality profiles and asked to determine which season (Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter) that a person was born in. The astrologers in the study were able to pick the correct personality profile 35 times out of 116. If there is really no connection between birth data and personality, we would expect the astrologers to be correct 1/4 of the time just by guessing (if we make the reasonable assumption that one-fourth of the population is born in each season). Perform a one-tailed hypothesis test of the claim that astrologers can match birth seasons to personality profiles better than chance. a. State the null hypothesis in symbols and words.b. - Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan polling organization that provides information about issues, attitudes, and trends shaping America. In a poll, Pew researchers found that 73% of teens aged 13–17 have a smartphone, 15% have a basic phone and 12% have no phone. The study also asked the respondents how they communicated with their closest friend. Of those with a smartphone, 58% responded texting, 17% social media and 10% phone calls. Of those with no smartphone, 25% responded texting, 29% social media and 21% phone calls.† Do you think the Pew researchers conducted a census or a sample survey to obtain their results? Why? Pew Research conducted a sample survey. A census would not have provided realistic information on such a large population. Pew Research conducted a census.
