Number of world series won by Yankees = $x=27$

Number of world series won by Reds = $y=5$ .

Given information:

Total number of world series Yankees and Reds won = 32

Number of series Yankees won = 5.4 times number of series Reds won.

Let Number of world series won by Yankees be x.

Number of world series won by Reds be y.

  $\Rightarrow x+y=32$ -------(1)

  $\Rightarrow x=5.4y$ -------(2)

Substitute the value of $x$ from equation-(2) in equation-(1) We get

  $\begin{array}{l}\Rightarrow x+y=32\\ \Rightarrow 5.4y+y=32\\ \Rightarrow 6.4y=32\\ \Rightarrow y=\frac{32}{6.4}\\ \Rightarrow y=5\end{array}$

Substitute value of $y$ in equation-(2)

We get

  $\begin{array}{l}x=5.4y\\ \Rightarrow x=5.4\left(5\right)\\ \Rightarrow x=27\end{array}$

Therefore, values of x and y are

  $\begin{array}{l}x=27\\ y=5\end{array}$

Number of world series won by Yankees = $x=27$

Number of world series won by Reds = $y=5$
