Concept introduction:
The arrangement of electrons in the orbitals of an atom is called electron configuration. It is written with the help of quantum numbers.
Every electron occupies the orbitals in the increasing order of their energy.
Pauli’s exclusion principle states that no two electrons in the same atom can have the same set of quantum numbers. Therefore, if two electrons occupy the same orbital, then they must have opposite spins.
Hund’s Rule states that when electrons occupy degenerate orbitals (i.e., orbitals having the same energies), they should occupy all the empty orbitals of the subshell before occupying the orbitals with one electron.
