Concept Introduction:

The chiral molecules usually contain at least one carbon atoms with four non-identical substituents. Such type of carbon atom is called a chiral center.

The single chiral atoms or similar structural feature in a compound causes that compound to have two possible structures which are non-superimposable, each a mirror image of the other.

Enantiomers are chiral molecules that are mirror images of one another. The molecules are non-superimposable on one another.
