Fertilization is the process of fusion of egg and sperm to form an embryo and finally an offspring. The parent body provides required nutrition to the developing embryo. The fertilization can be internal or external. In internal fertilization, the fusion of egg and sperm takes place inside the female body whereas in external fertilization it occurs outside the parent's bodies.
