Chapter 42, Problem 42.2CR
Summary Introduction
To determine: The changes in cardiac function that might be expected after surgical replacement of a defective heart valve.
Introduction: The heart is the most important organ of the circulatory system. It is a muscular organ that pumps oxygenated blood to every part of the body. It consists of four valves namely mitral valve, tricuspid valve, aortic valve, and pulmonary valve. The total amount of blood that the heart pumps through the circulatory system in a minute is referred as cardiac output. It is mainly determined by two factors: the heart rate and stroke volume.
