Concept explainers
To calculate the money earned per hour.
Answer to Problem 11P
$25.5
Explanation of Solution
Given:
A person makes $4.50 per hour more than apprentice.
The total cost during 8-hour day with combined earnings is $372.
Calculation:
Let $ x dollars be the apprentice that the plumber makes. Then the total amount that the plumber earns $( x + 45) per hour.
For one hour combined work,
The cost earned is $( 2x + 4.5)
For 8 hour combined work,
The cost earned is $8( 2x + 4.5)
Given that the cost of combined work is $372.
Hence the cost of apprentice is $21.
The cost of plumbing with apprentice is $( x + 4.5) which is $(21 + 4.5).
The cost of combined work is $25.5.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the cost of combined 8-hour work is $25.5.
