Chapter 35, Problem 10TYK
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

There are some important elements essential for the growth and development of plants. Plants must absorb these nutrients from the growth medium. These are classified as macronutrients (calcium, carbon, hydrogen, magnesium, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, potassium as well as sulfur) and micronutrients or trace minerals (boron, manganese, chlorine, copper, iron, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc). These plant nutrients are present in the soil in the form of salts, and plants absorb these nutrients in the form of ions. The macronutrients get absorbed in larger quantities as they contribute to almost 95% of the plant’s biomass, but the micronutrients in the plant tissue are present only in trace quantities.
