Chapter 33.3, Problem 1.3RIA
Summary Introduction

The mammalian hosts also possess some specific chemical barriers. These barriers help them to combat the continuous onslaught of the pathogens. The innate resistance of the mammals relies on the chemical mediators. This includes cationic peptides, cytokines, bacteriocins, acute-phase proteins, and the complement system. The complement system is made up of a huge number of serum proteins which plays a defensive immune response in mammals. Three pathways of complement activation are there, namely, the lectin, alternative, and classical pathways.
