- Time sharing
operating system was developed when computer systems were very expensive and shared by multiuser at the same time. - This operating system enables the multi-users to share the particular system resources at the same time.
- In this technique, each and every task of the user is given specific time and the system restricts the execution of each task or job to only one interval at a time which assist the system to perform all the tasks smoothly without being interrupted.
- This operating system uses CPU scheduling and multiprogramming technology to offer each user small portion of time to perform their operation.
Multitasking:
- As the name implies the term multitasking means several task is being processed at the same time. This technique contains common processing resources like a CPU and this resource is shared by each task or process. Practically, it is very difficult for a computer with single CPU to process more than one task at the same time this is when multitasking operating system becomes handy.
- It uses scheduling techniques that decide which task should be a running task and when the other tasks in queue should be performed.
- This operating system performs these operations with the help of a signal or interrupter which indicates CPU to keep the current task aside and save the present status in the buffer and return to another task.
