Introduction:
Fungi are eukaryotic organisms. It has a cell membrane and cell wall as cell boundary. Cell membrane is the outermost boundary of an animal cell. It is composed of a bilayer of the phospholipids. The fungus contains a rigid cell wall over cell membrane that contains complex polysaccharides called chitin and glucans. Animal cell contains cholesterol in the cell membrane that is replaced by ergosterol in the fungi cell membrane.

A student uses iodine to visualize cells under the light microscope. Iodine stains starch deep blue and glycogen granules dark brown.
Observation of the cells reveals the presence of cell walls, dark brown granules, mitochondria, and a prominent nucleus. If the chemical composition of the cell wall is determined, which of the following molecules would MOST likely be the major constituent?
A.
cellulose
B.
chitin
C.
lignin
D.
peptidoglycan
A biochemist grinds up a sample of plant roots, fungal mycorrhizae, and soil-dwelling arthropods. They then extract a mix of several polymeric molecules. Of the polymers found within the sample, which of the following molecules is least likely to be used as a component of a cell wall?
Group of answer choices
A. Chitin
B. Glucan
C. Starch
D. Cellulose
