Why is the sound of a harp soft in comparison with the sound of a piano?
To explain: The reason for the difference between the sound of a harp and a piano.
Answer to Problem 40A
This is due to the material used in the making of two instruments.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
There is a difference between a piano and harp sound. This is based on the concept of vibrations produced in various materials. For example- the sound of music is dependent on the type of material from which it is produced.
The reason behind the soft sound of a harp is that its sounding board is made up of lighter material and the strings. When the fingers runs on its strings then soft sound is produced. In piano the large wood material is used. When the fingers run on its strings the sound vibration forced into its large wood size and due to this hard sound is produced.
Conclusion:
The soft and light material of a harp is responsible for its soft sound as compared to the hard sound of piano due to heavy mood material.

The most efficient way to send a spacecraft from the earth to another planet is by using a Hohmann transfer orbit (Fig. P13.87). If the orbits of the departure and destination planets are circular, the Hohmann transfer orbit is an elliptical orbit whose perihelion and aphelion are tangent to the orbits of the two planets. The rockets are fired briefly at the depar- ture planet to put the spacecraft into the transfer orbit; the spacecraft then coasts until it reaches the destination planet. The rockets are then fired again to put the spacecraft into the same orbit about the sun as the destination planet.
