The transformer works on the principle of faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.Electromagnetic induction is a process of using a magnetic field to produce (or generate) voltage and current (in a complete circuit). Electromagnetic induction produces a voltage or EMF i.e. electromagnetic induction across the electrical conductor.
The transformer requires an alternating current (or AC power supply) to work. Generator has primary and secondary coils wrapped around the iron. Alternating current passes through the primary coil produces a flux for magnetic field. This flux induces alternate voltage in the secondary coil. The induction between the primary and the secondary coil are purely based on induction process as these coils don’t have any electrical connectivity. The output can be collected only when the current is alternate in nature, as in case DC current is given to the primary coil, it won’t be able to induce any voltage flux in the secondary coil.
Conclusion:
The primary and secondary coils of the generator are electrically insulated from each other. If the current given is not AC in nature no induction will take place in the device and hence no output we will be generated.
