Introduction:

A transformer is defined as an electrical device that is used to transform the electrical energy from one circuit to the other circuit b using the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. There are two types of transformer: step-up and step-down transformer.

In transformer, mutual induction takes place between two coils that transfer the energy from one circuit to theother through coils.

The ratio of potential difference across primary coil and secondary coil of transformer is called the transformer’s turns ratio. It is given by the formula,

  $\frac{N_p}{N_s}=\frac{V_p}{V_s}=n=$ Turns Ratio

Where,

  $N_p$ : Number of Primary turns of a coil

  $N_s$ : Number of Secondary turns of a coil

  $V_p$ : Voltage of Primary Side

  $V_s$ : Voltage of Secondary Side

The difference that exists between the primary and the secondary windings of a coil can be achieved by changing the number of turns of coil in the primary $N_p$ as compared to the number of turns of the secondary $N_s$ .
