How does the angle of the V shape of a bow wave depend on the speed of the wave source?
The angle of the V shape of a bow wave depends on the speed of the wave source. Explain.
Answer to Problem 52A
The narrower the angle between the sides of the V shape of the bow wave, the faster will be the wave source.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:Bow waves are produced when the speed of the source crosses the sound barrier.
When a source is traveling with the speed of sound and more, then the waves left behind it, creates pressure. Due to that pressure, the waves overlap. Now, the narrower will be the overlapping circles forming V shape of the bow waves, the faster it will move and louder, it will be heard.
Conclusion: Thus, the faster a source object moves after crossing the sound barrier, the narrower will be the angle of the V shape made by the bow waves.
