Introduction: Waves are of two types according to the mode of propagation; transverse wave and longitudinal wave.
When a stretched coiled spring is released, then the energy stored in the stretched spring generates disturbances. Such disturbances are of two types; one releases energy perpendicular to the back and forth motion of the spring and other along the direction of the longitudinal spring.
Conclusion: Thus, a transverse wave is produced generating back and forth motion in the perpendicular direction to the stretched coiled spring. A longitudinal wave is produced in the parallel direction to the length of the spring.
