Chapter 23, Problem 12TYK
Summary Introduction

To review:

The continental drift may obliterate the Pacific Ocean many years from now, pushing North America into physical contact with Asia. The types of effects these events have on the organisms living at that time.

Introduction:

The continental drift theory states that the continents of the earth have moved over geological time with respect to each other and they seem to have drifted over the ocean bed. This theory was first given by Abraham Ortelius in 1596. The continental theory was included in the plate tectonic theory, according to which the movement of the continents takes place due to disturbances in the position of the earth’s lithosphere plates.

magine that you are conducting research on fruit type and seed dispersal. You submitted a paper to a peer-reviewed journal that addresses the factors that impact fruit type and seed dispersal mechanisms in plants of Central America.  The editor of the journal communicates that your paper may be published if you make ‘minor revisions’ to the document. Describe two characteristics that you would expect in seeds that are dispersed by the wind.  Contrast this with what you would expect for seeds that are gathered, buried or eaten by animals, and explain why they are different.  (Editor’s note: Providing this information in your discussion will help readers to consider the significance of the research).
