To review:

A genetic factor that is apparently responsible for the presence or absence of spines in stickleback fish.

Introduction:

In response to the dominant predators in each habitat, stickleback fish have developed morphological changes by natural selection. The marine population has long spines to protect itself from predator fishes while freshwater sticklebacks lack spines that help them to escape from the clutches of predators.
