Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Lipid, types of lipids with functions needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Lipids are macronutrients. These organic compounds that is insoluble in water and soluble in other non-polar organic solvents.
They are present in all living organism such as plants, animals, microorganisms, and found in the cell membrane components. The lipids are acts as energy storage molecules, insulation, and hormones.
Answer to Problem 7RQ
Lipids are an insoluble organic material that storage of the fats and participate in the formation of the biological membrane.
Types of the lipids-
Fat
Phospholipid
Waxes
Explanation of Solution
Lipids are made of the elements Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, but have a much lower proportion of water. They provide high energy and perform many biological functions.
There mainly three type of the lipids given as −
Fat - Fats in the correct amounts are necessary for the proper functioning of our body and they are store a huge amount of energy.
Phospholipid − these containing the fatty acid and other
Wax- Waxes are esters. They are made by replacing the hydrogen with acid by an alkyl or another organic group and formed from long-alcohols and long-chain
These are the organic compounds that are nonpolar molecules, and soluble only in nonpolar solvents and insoluble in water because water is a polar molecule.
They function as energy storage.
