Interpretation: The clues in the given photographs to indicate a chemical change needs to be explained.
Concept Introduction: When a substance changes its appearance or change in the state takes place and there is no change in its chemical composition, the change is said to be physical. On the other hand, when there is a change in the chemical composition of a substance or a new substance is formed after a
Explanation of Solution
When a coil of zinc metal is added to a solution of sulfuric acid, oxidation of zinc takes place by acid. Here, gas is released which indicates that a chemical reaction is taking place. In photograph A, it can be seen that the zinc coil starts to corrode and dissolve in sulphuric acid. The products formed are zinc sulfate and hydrogen gas. As a chemical reaction is taking place, it is a chemical change.
When a yellow solution of sodium chromate is added to a colorless solution of silver nitrate, a reddish-brown solid is formed. This can be seen in photograph B. Here, silver chromate and sodium nitrate are products formed in the reaction. This reddish-brown color shows the formation of silver chromate. The formation of reddish-brown solid shows the formation of a new substance. Thus, it is a chemical change.

- Draw and show the full mechanism of how the molecule ((1E, 3E, 5E)-1-methoxyhepta-1,3,5-triene) is built using substitution and elimination reactions. You can start with an alkane of any carbon length with any number of leaving groups attached or with a alkoxide of any carbon length (conjugate base of an alcohol). Show each step and and explanation for each reaction. Also include why the reagents and solvents were picked and what other products can be expected.arrow_forwardDon't USE AIarrow_forwardDon't USE AIarrow_forward
