Summary Introduction

To review:

The importance of detection without resolution in the field of microscopy.

Introduction:

The observance of an object under the microscope is subject to the clarity of the image and whether it falls within the limit of resolution. Human eyes can resolve the objects that are more than and equal to one-tenth of a millimeter. However, in some cases, it may be possible to detect an object without resolving the fine details of the image.

Detection is determined as the observance of an object without resolving. Human eyes can also detect a range of things but are unable to resolve them. For example, the presence of a fungal colony on a rotting bread can be detected by the human eyes but the eyes are unable to resolve them. It can detect the presence of fungi but are unable to view the fungal cells separately because of their microscopic size.

In the microscopic world just like the above example, several structures are detected but cannot be resolved. The curve of flagellum can be detected but not resolved in the case of dark-field microscopy. This can reveal the rotary motion of the flagella. Thus, detection without resolution is evident in several cases.
