Interpretation:The difference between heterogeneous and homogeneous reaction needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:Heterogeneous reactions can be definedas
For example, the reaction between salt and water. Here salt is in solid phase and water is in liquid phase.
On the other hand, Homogeneous reactions can be defined as a chemical reaction in which the reactants and products are in the same phase.
For example, the reaction between carbon monoxide and oxygen in the air. Both reactants are gaseous in the air.
Answer to Problem 7A
Heterogeneous and homogeneous reactions are different in following aspects:
- Definition.
- Uniformity.
- Nature of the reaction.
Explanation of Solution
- Heterogeneous reactions are the reactions in which the reactants and products are in two or more phases. Whereas, Homogeneous reactions are the reactions in which the reactants and products are in the same phase.
- A heterogeneous reaction lacksuniformity whereas homogeneous reactions have uniformity.
- Heterogeneous reactions are very complicated whereas homogeneous reactions are very simple.
Heterogeneous and homogeneous reactions are different in following aspects:
- Definition.
- Uniformity.
- Nature of the reaction.
