Interpretation:
The examples of heterogeneous reaction and homogenous reaction are to be given.
Concept introduction:
- In a homogenous reaction, reactants and products both are in the same phase.
- In a heterogeneous reaction, both are in different phases.
Answer to Problem 5RQ
The example of homogenous reaction is
In this reaction, reactants and products both are in aqueous form.
The example of heterogeneous reaction is
In this reaction, both are in the different phases or reactant is in solid form and products are in solid as well as gaseous form.
Explanation of Solution
The heterogeneous reactions are those reactions in which reactants and products are present in the different phases while homogenous reactions are those reactions in which both reactants and products are present in the same phases. So, reaction 1st is a homogenous reaction while the second reaction is an example of a heterogeneous reaction.
Reactants and products are in the same phase for the homogenous reaction and both are in the different phases for the heterogeneous reaction.
