Explanation of Solution

Maintaining a motivated workforce is of great importance to an organization, as it is the workers that steer the business ahead. Motivation is a means by which an employee’s effort is strengthened, focused and maintained in the long run in achieving the predetermined targets.

The concept of motivation consists of three elements namely, energy, direction and persistence. Energy is the level of effort put by an employee. It is connected to aspects such as power, initiative and robustness. However, higher levels of efforts are no guarantee of great results. For it to be effective, it has to be directed towards the correct path. Efforts must travel in a path that is beneficial for the organization as well as the employees. The continuous effort put in by employees in moving ahead in the correct path is known as persistence.
