One-carbon metabolism is a set of reactions that transfer one carbon atom from one molecule to another molecule. The equivalent one-carbon groups that are involved in biosynthetic reactions are methanol, formaldehyde, andformate. Methanol is mostly reduced and formate is mostly oxidized.
