A tight metal sealed to glass can be formed only when the coefficient of expansion of both metal and the glass are the same.
Platinum glass holds equal expansion coefficient. It can be packed securely into the tube of glass. Copper’s expansion coefficient is nearly double as compared to glass. For the glass tube, therefore, it can’t shape a tight one.
