Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Any object with more density than the water will sink. When the object's density is greater than the water, then it floats on water.

The height of the object present above the water level increases with the difference of density of the object and the density of water. That means, lesser is the density of the object, more will be height of the above the water level.

From the given figure, one can see that, the object 1 and 2 are floating on the water surface. That means, their densities are less than the density of water. So, these must be the object a and b .

In addition to this, height of the object above the water level is more for object 1 than compared to the object 2. So, the density of object 1 is less than that of the object 2. The density of object a is less than that of the object b . so the correct matching is 1- a and 2- b.

The remaining objects have densities greater than that of the water. So they will sink.

So, the position of the object are a -1, b -2, c -6, d -6 and e -6.

Conclusion:

Hence, the required position is a1, b2,c6,d6 and e6 .
