Diels-alder reaction is an organic reaction in which diene and dienophile react with each other in order to form a ring or bicyclic compounds. It is a single step reaction.

The driving force of the reaction is the formation of new σ-bonds, which are energetically more stable than the π-bonds.

The general reaction of Diels-alder is as follows:
