Chapter 13, Problem 30P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The products of the given reactionsare to be predicted.

Concept introduction:

Electrophilic addition reaction is a type reaction in which double bondsare converted into sigma bonds. Electrophilic addition reaction is the reaction between an electrophile and a nucleophile.

Electrophiles are positivelycharged species that are attract to the electron-rich center. It acceptsan electron pair to form a covalent bond.

Nucleophiles are negativelycharged species that donate an electron pair to an electrophile to form a covalent bond.

Electrophilic addition to the conjugated dienes results in the formation of alkenyl bromides. If the double bond presents in an alternate manner, the dienes are called conjugated dienes.

Two modes of addition are possible during the electrophilic addition of dienes. It can be 1,2-addition or 1,4-addition, depending upon kinetics and the thermodynamic conditions of the reaction.
