Range of Set C = 10.1

Mean of Set D = 4.4

Set C has more varied data since its range is higher.

Calculation:

Arrange the data in ascending order:

Set C : 1.2 , 2.1 ,6.4 , 10 , 11.3

Mean =

  $\frac{sum\text{ of all the entries}}{\text{total number of entries}}=\frac{1.2+2.1+6.4+10+11.3}{5}=\frac{31}{5}=6.2$

Range is the difference of the highest and lowest value of the data =11.3 − 1.2 = 10.1

Set D : 0 , 2 , 3 , 8 , 9

Mean =

  $\frac{sum\text{ of all the entries}}{\text{total number of entries}}=\frac{0+2+3+8+9}{5}=\frac{22}{5}=4.4$

Range is the difference of the highest and lowest value of the data = 9 − 0 = 9

Set C has more varied data since its range is higher.

The average of Set C is higher than that of Set D , since mean of Set C is higher.
