Human centrifuges are often used to simulate different acceleration levels for pilots. When aerospace physiologists say that a pilot is pulling 9 g’s, they mean that the resultant normal force on the pilot from the bottom of the seat is nine times their weight. Knowing that the centrifuge starts from rest and has a constant angular acceleration of 1.5 RPM per second until the pilot is pulling 9 g’s and then continues with a constant angular velocity, determine (a) how long it will take for the pilot to reach 9 g’s (b) the angle θ of the normal force once the pilot reaches 9 g’s.

- Determine the magnitude and direction of acceleration of a system composed of a 4 kg cast iron block and a 3 kg steel block connected by a pulley. The two blocks are placed on each side of a 2- sided brass inclined plane. The cast iron is placed on the 20-degree side, while the steel is placed on the 45-degree side of the inclined. The coefficients of kinetic friction for cast iron and steel on brass are 0.30 and 0.44, respectively. The static coefficients of friction are 0.40 for cast iron on brass and 0.50 for steel on brass.arrow_forwardTwo blocks of mass m1 = 340 g and m2 = 750 g are pushed by a force. The coefficient of kinetic friction between each block and the ground is 0.4. The blocks move together (with one pushing the other) with an acceleration of 225 cm/s2. What is the value of the applied force in Newtons? Hint: Make sure to include the frictional force for each block.arrow_forwardA string is wound around a pulley of diameter of 0.2 m.
