Chapter 12, Problem 46E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The mass of sodium (in mg) consumed is to be calculated.

Concept Introduction:

Solutions are homogeneous mixtures made up of two components, the solute and the solvent.

The same solutes and solvents can form a number of combinations by varying their amounts. These combinations can be differentiated in terms of concentration of solutions. Concentration of a solution is defined as the amount of solute present in the given amount of solvent.

There are many ways of expressing concentration of a solution, such as mass percent, volume percent, molarity, parts per million.

Mass percent is defined as the mass of solute present in 100 g of a solution.

Volume percent is defined as the mass of solute present in 100 mL of a solution.

Parts per million is defined as the mass of solute present in 106 g of a solution. It is used for expressing concentration when a small amount of solute is present in the solution.

Density  = Mass of water (g)Volume of water (L)

It is known 1 g = 1000 mg, conversion factor is as 1000 mg1 g

The solubility of (NH4)2SO4 in water is 75.4 g of (NH4)2SO4 per 100 g of water. 62.2 g of (NH4)2SO4 are added to 79.0 g of water. How many grams of (NH4)2SO4 dissolved in the water (write your answer with three significant figures)? g. Is this solution saturated or unsaturated (write "saturated" or "unsaturated" without the quotes.)
Parts per million (ppm) is a common way to express small concentrations of a solute in water. A sample of tap water that is. 25 ppm Cl contains 25 grams of Cl for every 1,000,000 grams of water. Which units are numerically equal to ppm for dilute aqueous solutions? ng/L cg/L mg/L µg/L O g/L
A laboratory technician purchased 250. mL of 15.4 mol/L nitric acid. She uses this concentrated solution to prepare a 1.00 mol/L nitric acid solution. How many litres of dilute nitric acid can she prepare from the concentrated nitric acid solution she purchased?
