Chapter 12, Problem 1VI
Summary Introduction

To answer:

Label the photos with the type of fungal spore, and indicate whether the spore is asexual or sexual.

Introduction:

Fungi are eukaryotic organisms placed under the kingdom Fungi. Fungi reproduce by either asexual or sexual reproduction. In sexual reproduction, fungal hyphae fuse to form diploid zygote by karyogamy. These diploid zygotes undergo mitotic division followed by meiotic division producing haploid spores. Individual spores germinate producing either (+) or (-) hyphae. This type of reproduction is seen in ascomycetes forming ascospores. In asexual reproduction, hyphae a filamentous structure of the fungal body separates from it and grow as individual new fungi. These hyphae are embedded into the substratum.
