Chapter 12, Problem 12.26P
Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation: Advantages and/or disadvantages of using sodium hypochlorite for oxidation over HCrO4-AmberlystA-26 resin are to be stated.

Concept introduction: HCrO4-AmberlystA-26 is an insoluble polymeric reagent. This is a green chemistry reagent for oxidation of alcohols as it avoids the usage of strong acids and it also forms by-product with carcinogenic Cr3+ which can be removed by filtration. Sodium hypochlorite is also a green chemistry reagent for oxidation of alcohols as no carcinogenic metals are used.

Interpretation Introduction

(b)

Interpretation: Advantages and/or disadvantages of using sodium hypochlorite for oxidation over CrO3,H2SO4,H2O are to be stated.

Concept introduction: Sodium hypochlorite is a green chemistry reagent for oxidation of alcohols as it avoids the usage of strong acids and also no carcinogenic metals are used. Sodium hypochlorite is also a green chemistry reagent for oxidation of alcohols as no carcinogenic metals are used.
