Interpretation:
The free energy diagram for the reaction that produces the isomeric product by drawing the carbocation intermediates is to be completed.
Concept introduction:
The reaction energy diagram for electrophilic addition reaction is a plot of the energy of the reaction with reaction coordinates. The energy diagram of the electrophilic addition shows the steps of the reaction. The intermediate or transition state is much higher in energy than the reactant and products due to presence of charges. The first step of the electrophilic addition reaction – formation of the carbocation intermediate – is the rate-determining step of the overall reaction. The primary carbocation is less stable than secondary carbocation.
