Interpretation:

For high temperature applications, the major problems associated with utilization of intermetallics needs to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

The intermetallic compound is a substance that comprises a minimum of two metallic constituents that blend to give a new phase of the same properties and other features that is consisted of a parent material. It also consists of one or more than one non-metallic element if required.

• The intermetallic compounds are very hard and brittle in nature.
• They hold properties like strength and ductility.
• They could withstand at high temperatures.
• The mechanical properties are equivalent to that of ceramics.
• They also hold magnetic properties.
• They are good conductors as well.
