Chapter 11, Problem 11.44P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The reason should be determined for the maximum tensile strength in Pb-Sn system at the eutectic composition.

Concept Introduction:

When the melting and solidifying of same or homogeneous substances occur at a single temperature, then the system is known as the Eutectic system. The melting temperature of any single substance is greater than the eutectic temperature

Eutectoids transformation occurs when the solution above the transformation point is available in the solid state instead of the liquid state.

The eutectic reaction is formed at the thermal equilibrium. Hence, it is also called Invariant reaction. By using Gibbs Energy is equal to zero equation, we can determine the temperature.

A firefighter is using a large water tank to supply water for extinguishing a fire. The tank has a small hole at the bottom, and water is leaking out due to gravity. The hole is located 2.5 meters below the water surface inside the tank. a. Determine the speed at which the water exits the hole. Assume there is no air resistance and that the water flow is ideal (neglect viscosity and turbulence). b. If the hole has a diameter of 2 cm, calculate the flow rate (discharge rate) in liters per second.
For the system shown in Figure 2, u(t) and y(t) denote the absolute displacements of Building A and Building B, respectively. The two buildings are connected using a linear viscous damper with damping coefficient c. Due to construction activity, the floor mass of Building B was estimated that vibrates with harmonic displacement that is described by the following function: y(t) = yocos(2πft). Figure 2: Single-degree-of-freedom system in Problem 2. Please compute the following related to Building A: (a) Derive the equation of motion of the mass m. (20 points) (b) Find the expression of the amplitude of the steady-state displacement of the mass m. (10 points
