To Explain: the reason that roofs of houses are sometimes “blown” off during a tornado or hurricane with the help of using Bernoulli’s Principle.
Answer to Problem 19Q
The fast-moving wind of a tornado or hurricane creates a pressure difference across the inside and outside the house. The pressure above the roof to be quite low which causes blowing of the roof due to this.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
According to Bernoulli’s Principle as the speed of the air flow increases, the pressure decreases.
According to the Bernoulli’s principle there is a pressure difference inside and outside of the house. Inside the house the pressure level is normal in comparison to the outside of the house. At the time of tornado or hurricane, the speed of the air on the roof is very high. By using the concept of Bernoulli’s principle the pressure gets lowered because of the increase in the velocity of fast moving air. Because of the difference in the pressure the roofs of the houses are blown off during the tornados or hurricane.
Conclusion:
The fast-moving wind of a tornado or hurricane creates a pressure difference across the inside and outside the house. The pressure above the roof to be quite low.
