Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The effect on the hypothesis needs to be explained, if the evidence collected is not supporting hypothesis.
Concept introduction:
Hypothesis is a testable statement or prediction.
Answer to Problem 44A
If the evidence collected does not support a hypothesis, then the hypothesis should be ruled out and new one should be formed.
Explanation of Solution
A limited explanation of a phenomenon is considered as hypothesis for example, consuming too much sugar on daily basis leads to obesity. Thus, if there is no evidence that consuming sugar daily leads to obesity then the hypothesis should be ruled out and scientist should consider creating a new hypothesis.
Hence, if no evidence is in favor of the hypothesis, the hypothesis should be eliminated and new hypothesis should be constructed.
