Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:  Whether there is a proper use of the term theory in the given condition or not needs to be determined.

Concept introduction:  The study of structure, composition, properties of matter is known as chemistry. In the subject chemistry, an idea to describe anything or a set of conducting principles is termed as a theory.

Answer to Problem 10STP

Theory must be verifiable but, in a question, student is explaining a reason of his poor score. So, it is not a proper use of term theory.

Explanation of Solution

Chemistry is included in everything, cooking and growing food, cleaning homes and bodies, launching a space shuttle, etc. Theory is a result of practical and tests. Also, it is the relationship between two (2) or more than two (2) phenomena. It must be supported with any evidence.

According to the questions, term theory used by a student is not proper use because he did not test (or do any practical) it. He is explaining a reason of his poor result which is not any proven theory or test.

Conclusion

Thus, student is not using the term theory properly.
